We are excited to announce that one of our teacher training graduates and awesome yogi, Shahir, is organizing a donation event on Monday, June 21 “Summer Soltice” or the first day of Summer!   Join Shahir in practicing 108 sun salutations to welcome the new season.  Why 108?  108 is considered a sacred number in many Eastern religions.  It is often referred to in ancient yogic texts and is symbolic of the yoga discipline.  This excerpt from Yoga Journal explains:

“Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance.  According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.”

It’s a great way to welcome the new season and will leave you feeling energized and rejuvenated.  This is a free event (donation), with all donations going to fund yoga scholarships for those who cannot afford classes.  It takes someone on average an hour and a half to complete the 108 Surya Namaskars.

108 might seem like a really intimidating number, but once you find a rhythm your breath takes over and you’ll be surprised at how easily you move through your salutations.

We are so excited to announce that Yoga Tropics is expanding into a new space just down the street at the corner of 2nd Street and I street.  While the kids yoga classes already use the space, we are having a grand opening on Mother’s day weekend!  We’ll be offering our first yoga classes along with some treatments for all the mom’s!  More information on the event coming soon!

We will be using the space to have additional yoga classes to include more vinyasa style sessions, kids’ classes, surfer’s flow, restorative yoga and more.  In addition we will be using the space to host workshops and trainings as well as work with body workers to create a collective of alternative health practitioners.  The space features 5 treatment rooms, men’s and women’s shower rooms, a spacious yoga room with beautiful new wood floors, and a gorgeous lobby area.

We are still in the organizing stages as far as scheduling classes but will keep you posted on our progress:)
